Therapy and My Approach

One of the most important benefits of therapy is that it speeds up the process of healing and change. Whatever your concerns, past, present or future, you do not need to face them alone. In an atmosphere of safety and respect, no problem is too big or too small for our careful attention. My approach is client centered, which means I meet you where you are and then help you get to where you want to be.

Issues my clients often focus on:

  •  Relationships   •  Trauma
  •  Life transitions   •  Personal growth
  •  Depression/Anxiety   •  Grief and loss

The major influences in my work are:

  • Internal Family Systems--each of us has a larger Self, that can help heal, and even transform, parts of ourselves that hold old thoughts, feelings and beliefs...
  • Psychodynamic theories--that our relationships, past and present, often impact how we live; developing an understanding of this can allow us to make important changes in our lives...
  • Buddhist psychology-- the compassionate awareness that our thoughts and emotions don't have to rule our lives; we can be free from suffering...
  • Contemporary trauma theories--old hurts and wounds, re-experienced in the safety of our therapy relationship, can be resolved through the incredible capacities of the brain...

I draw on all of these approaches and more to create a therapy with you that is engaging, meaningful and effective.

"When a great moment knocks on the door of your life, its sound is often no louder than the beating of your heart and it is very easy to miss it."
